The Handicraft National Director of the Ministry of International Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Madeleine Burns, said that the Peruvian handicraft has been successfully sold in the principal tourist destinations of Honduras and the Cayman Islands and also at the principals tourist markets of the neighbor countries.
“The Chilean, Bolivian, Argentinean and Colombian handcraft market have a lot of Peruvian handicraft included. They are natural markets where our craftsmen trade directly their products”, she said.
In the other side, the internal consume of handcrafts has considerably increased in the last years due to the frequent fairs that Mincetur has developed.
“The Peruvian handicraft has not only introduced itself in the home décor department, it has also been include in the fashion world. As a matter of fact, hotels also recognized the quality of these products and they are using handcraft in their decoration.” She explained
“In this season, regarding the total sales of handcrafts here in Peru, an 80% is acquired by the own Peruvian people and the other 20 % are bought by the foreigners”, she commented.
